Northern Pakistan is spectacular and demanding. Long highway stretches, unpaved approaches to viewpoints, sudden weather changes, and altitude mean a city sedan is the wrong tool for Hunza, Skardu, or Naran itineraries.
A Fortuner, Prado, or Revo-class SUV gives ground clearance, stability with luggage, and confidence on wet or gravel sections. For groups, a Hiace or cabin van can cover highway legs, but off-pavement sightseeing still benefits from an SUV.
Plan fuel stops intentionally. Distances between reliable pumps can stretch, and mountain grades increase consumption. Keep the tank above half when climbing into higher valleys.
Landslides and road works can delay even the best plan. Build buffer days into Skardu or Hunza schedules, and keep offline maps as a backup when signal drops.
